Yesterday, Z was in charge of the 19.5-table (yay!) club game, so we had to be at the Best Western by noon.  By 11, I was pretty much done for the day with my writing, so we decided we'd walk the 3 miles to the playing site.  The walk was great -- it was a beautiful day and I felt good about getting exercise and saving the planet and all that.  But I hadn't chosen my footwear wisely, and with about a half mile to go in the walk, I noticed that my feet were in a lot of pain.  So I took off my shoes and walked barefoot for a while, because I'm a hippie like that.  I have four humongous blisters on my left foot today, and I bandaided them all up, but they still hurt a lot.  Oh well.

The bridge game went well.  We played okay, but I definitely feel rusty...we'll do some practicing before Gatlinburg.  We're playing a couple of sessions in DC this weekend and might play some BBO before then.  Anyway, everyone at the game seemed impressed with McKenzie as director, and a few people even asked why he wasn't the regular director instead of Betsy (!!!), who was out of town this week.  We explained that we're not always around and that Z often has FedEx work so can't commit to a regular directing gig, but that he'd be happy to take over whenever he's available.  Not that Betsy would want to step down.  I don't see that happening...ever.

This morning, Z got called in to work for FedEx.  I went with him to get a rental van, and on the way to the rental place, we passed McIntire Park, where I noticed a ferris wheel, among other rides.  The fair is in town!!  I got really excited and called Emily immediately even though it was only 7:45 and asked her to join me there tomorrow.  We used to go every year when we were kids, and call me crazy but I love the rides.  As a kid, I always wanted to ride the spinning, whirling, make-you-throw-up rides, but never the ferris wheel.  I was terrified of the ferris wheel.  No, I can't explain it...

I haven't been back to a fair since Jeremy puked all over me on a ride at the Bridgewater May Day carnival back in 2003, which caused me to puke all over myself, and there is nothing worse than having someone else's puke all over you, until you join it with your own.  But I think I'm ready to put those demons behind me.  Emily can't go with me tonight because she's going to the Underwood/Urban show (I gave my ticket up for someone who actually really wanted it), but maybe Z wants to go tonight....

In a lot of ways, I still haven't grown up, but I do have to grow up now and be a writer for a few hours.

Peace.

You should come to this fair with me:) Fuck the ferris wheel, let's go on the spinny stuff!

(If memory serves, that yellow thing that you stand up in and get spun around so fast that you stick to the walls as it turns and dips is called The Scat at our local carnival. I could be remembering incorrectly, and I hope that I am, actually...)

Jealous!

I love ferris wheels, roller coasters, bumper cars, you name it. But I live with a man who is 6'4", and he hates all these rides because they are built for shorter people so they always bring him pain.

I need to find some local ride-lovers to have some carnival fun with.

Yeah, Z is about that tall. But my best friend is 5'4 and petite and loves the rides as much as I do:)

I, too, am terrified of ferris wheels. I think it stems back to a trip to Dollywood where my mom, a friend, and I got stranded in a ferris wheel for what seemed like hours. Yes, we got stuck at the absolute top. We were swinging back and forth from the wind and OMG it was terrible.
