Travel anxiety
Apr. 26th, 2008 10:40 amZ and I are at BWI waiting for our flight to San Antonio right now. I had an upset stomach all day yesterday, which is par for the course whenever I travel. I don't really understand why I get this way, because I'm definitely not afraid to fly. My father drilled it into my head as a child that flying is certainly the safest way to travel (whether or not this is true is irrelevant -- I heard it all the time and it is forever in my head now) and I really love being in the air. So I don't know why I get all gastro-intestinally freaked when we fly, but I know it happens every time, no matter what. I've tried a bunch of different medicines to help, but so far to no avail.
Despite my GI gymnastics, yesterday was a really fun day. We started off at my parents' house for brunch, where we were joined by my brothers, my sister-in-law, my cousin Laura, one of my mom's good friends, and of course my two nieces, Lucy and Frankie. Lucy was less difficult than she's been in the past, so it was nice to hang with her, but of course baby Frankenstein was the real guest of honor. I got to hold and cuddle her a lot. She's still so tiny -- she weighs less at 3 weeks than her big sister ever weighed outside the womb -- 7lbs7oz. She's got long, skinny limbs, and big dark eyes. I think she looks like Rachel, which means I won't have another niece-clone, but she's going to be a beautiful girl. I may be a bit biased. She smiles a lot for a newborn, which usually just means she has gas, but it's still cute. I smile when I fart, too.
After a too-short visit, Laura carted us up to DC, since our flight is out of Baltimore this morning. We joined a bunch of her friends for Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Neither Z or I really got a lot out of the first H&K, so our expectations were pretty low. I definitely thing this one was better than the first, and I had several laugh out loud moments. I'm going to be saying "balls!" a lot now. And the line about handjobs was the smartest thing I've ever heard George Bush say. But I won't give it away;) Overall, stupid movie, but entertaining nonetheless. I won't need to see it again, but it was cute. B-.
Time to catch a plane.
Peace.
