Apr. 29th, 2008 08:37 pmIt's good to be back in Oregon, but it's cold here! I don't mind not having allergies for the time being, but I do wish the weather were nicer. I packed rather optimistically for this trip and I don't have any jackets or anything.
Z and I played in the club in Salem this morning, and despite a really awful set, we managed to finish 3rd overall and 1st our direction in the 17.5-table game. It's nice to know that even when we aren't on top of our game, we're still better than average.
This is our third visit to Oregon together, and we've played in probably 20 or more sessions of bridge in that time, and every single time we play, at least one (but usually more than that) person asks "Are you moving back?" I don't know why, but this bothers the hell out of me. I guess it just feels like they're insulting my home when they keep insisting that Z should re-relocate. And it always hurts my feelings when they ask if he gets homesick and he says yes. It doesn't hurt my feelings that he gets homesick for Oregon -- hell, I was Oregon-sick myself before we came back -- it's just that it's sort of an insensitive question to ask when I'm right there. I mean I know it's innocent, but when you hear it 15 times a day, 8 days a week, it's grating.
I was going to say more about that, but I've just been told it's dinner time.
Peace.
