This past week was the first time that I'd ever spent an entire week with Lucy, and Frankie and Rachel for that matter.  As Lucy gets older, she's been growing a real attitude, and my parents certainly haven't helped, because they spoil her like crazy.  Not having had any really extended periods of time to spend with her, Lucy and I never bonded the way I did with my aunts when I was a little girl.  I've always been a little sad about that, but I've loved Lucy entirely nonetheless.

Something happened this week, though.  I was usually the one playing with Lucy in the ocean, because my brother and Rachel were busy with the baby, and I was one of the only ones interested in going in the ocean anyway.  Lucy and I had lots of fun out there, and I think it was the first time Lucy thought of me as fun.  On the third day, she said "Meg, you're my friend because you always play with me in the water and we rock out together."  (I let her hold the extra guitar when I play GH, and I taught her all the words to "Rock and Roll All Nite.")  Yesterday, I was sitting on the couch next to her watching TV, and she just spontaneously put her arms out for a hug.  She squeezed me so tight and cuddled up to me for the next hour.  I had to pee really urgently, but I didn't want to spoil the moment, so I just held it as long as I could to cuddle with my niece.  Aww.

When it was time to say goodbye today, Lucy was pretty bummed, and was acting out by being whiny and bratty.  She wouldn't give anyone hugs goodbye, but when William and Rachel pushed her, she ran to me and hugged me tight and wouldn't let go.  When I told her I had SO MUCH FUN with her this week, her little eyes welled up.  I really hope this feeling lasts for her.

Frankie is two months old now.  We've all taken to calling her Frankenstein, which is the best baby nickname ever.  (Z suggests "Lucifer" for Lucy.)  Baby Frankenstein is still teeny tiny -- she barely weighs 10 pounds, but she's all leg...very tall, or long, as it were.  Her face is so expressive, too.  She grins a lot and seems to be a pretty happy kid.  I got to cuddle with her a lot this week, too, and while I love how cute she is now, I can't wait until she's old enough to really interact.  When Lucy said my name for the first time, I thought it was just the greatest thing ever.  And it'll also be nice not to worry about getting spit up on every time I hold her.  I have a weak stomach for that.

I'm sad to be leaving, but I'll see them again soon.  I've never been happier to be an aunt.

Peace.
