I should have seen this coming.  At least I didn't wake up at 5am Eastern.  I tried really hard to get back to sleep, because I'm playing with a new bridge partner today and I really want to be on top of my game.  Hopefully 7 hours of sleep was enough.  Right now, it doesn't feel like it, but I'm too alert to get back to sleep.  The walls are really thin at this hotel, and there's a lot of noise from other rooms and the parking lot.  At 5am, I know.  What are these people doing?

Yesterday when I got back from my walk (about 1 or 1:30), there was a group of really mangy-looking dudes sitting outside one of the rooms near mine, drinking and making a ton of noise.  They were still there when Z and I got back from dinner and Costco at 9.

We didn't have any particular reason to go to Costco; we didn't need 40 of anything, but we like Costco, and I wanted to go somewhere in town that had a view of Mt. McLoughlin.  The snow is melting away fast, and the peak was just sort of streaked with white.  It was really stunning, but I still prefer the mountains with their winter coats of white.  There's just something especially magnificent about looking over a green skyline and then seeing the huge mountain of white towering over it all.  Oregon is really lovely in the winter.  I know it's sort of bizarre, especially for a non-skier, to want to have a winter home further north, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

Aside from the view of McLoughlin and its proximity to Crater Lake, Medford is nothing special.  Compared to other towns in Oregon, it's kind of a drag, actually, but I still really love it here.  I just wish it were easier to travel between VA and OR.  I consider both places home.

Z will be working next week (YAY!) in Grants Pass.  That means we'll probably miss the bluegrass festival in Virginia, but it also means we'll be able to afford other things like the stuff we bought at Costco yesterday:)  J/f -- we didn't really splurge, but we did get a few things.  I picked up a skort, which is actually really, really cute and might just be my new favorite thing in my wardrobe, and the new David Sedaris book.  Z got a body pillow that he says he's been wanting forever and Fletch Lives, because he wants me to die of anxiety, I guess.

I'm thinking of seeing a chiropractor.  My cousin suggested it last week and I'm thinking it would be helpful.  I've never in my life been flexible.  I don't just mean that I'm not very flexible, I mean that I am incredibly, incredibly NOT flexible.  For instance, sitting with my legs straight out in front of me, without bending forward at all, is an incredibly painful stretch for me.  I did gymnastics and ballet for most of my childhood, and have done yoga and pilates for most of my adult life.  This is not a result of me not stretching enough; it is just the way my body is.  My lower back does not bend.  At all.  And I just realized that this is something that will cause me problems later in life, so I'd best be proactive about it.  Furthermore, my coccydinia makes most of the pilates exercises one does for the lower back impossible for me.  Furtherfurthermore, a chiropractor may be able to help with the coccydinia, too.  So I want to do that.  I doubt it will be covered by my insurance plan, so I hope it's not too expensive.  But maybe my insurance will surprise me.

Do any of you have experience with chiropractic?  Ideas, advice?

Also I would love another massage, but I can't justify paying for one when I have someone in Cville who'll do it for free.  But I'm not in Cville.  Dang.  Anyway, I have time for neither today, so for now I'm just curious what you guys know on the subject of inflexible 25-year-old girls whose bodies really shouldn't be so broken down.

Peace.

I've been seeing a chiropractor for 2 years now and I think it's made a big difference in my lower back and my gait (and my neck, to a lesser extent--i still sometimes get random bad days where my neck will just hurt all day). I was really nervous going into it, but the actual adjustment seems pretty standard now, and I think the important thing is just going to a chiropractor you can trust. Get a referral, go for a free consultation, ask friends in the area--bad chiros can really screw things up, but good ones can make your life a lot better.

As for the price--yeah, not cheap. Some insurances do cover it, but my crappy school insurance is not one of them. It's better now because I only go once every three weeks, but I started out going three times a week, and even with a 20% self-pay discount still wound up being a big chunk of change. Still, I think it's been worth it to get myself in better structural shape till I can get my leg length discrepancy fixed up for good (probably in a couple years).
