I'm afraid I've been listening to this song so much lately that I'm going to ruin it for myself.  But for now, I love, love, love it.  It's sorta depressing, but it's SO pretty.  Do I have an mp3 to share?  Well, no.  But go out and find a version of it:

The Waybacks - "The Blacksmith"  It's a traditional song, but I never knew it before I heard their version, and I can't imagine a prettier one.  There's an mp3 here -- not sure if it's full length or not.

Also, I really love songs sung by men from a woman's perspective.  There's something really pretty about that.  Anyway do yourselves a favor and go listen to this one, k?

I'm going to want to powwow with Kerry sometime soon to talk about all the new artists McKenzie has turned me on to.  I'm also really getting into the Decemberists these days.  I was decidedly NOT a fan at first, but the more I listen to them, the more I'm loving them.  I wasn't wild about the singer's voice at first, but it's grown on me.  And huge kudos to Z for not forcing it on me.  Had he done so, I would never have gotten over my initial distaste.  Anyway, my favorite Decemberists song at the moment is "The Engine Driver," if you feel like checking it out.  Although I'm really loving the whole Picaresque album these days, which I believe is the only one we have.  We should get more.

This post is going to make McKenzie so happy.

Peace.

Engine Driver is Alex's favorite song. I like it, but I'm a little more into the Crane Wife album. As a whole, beginning to end. I listened to it so much when I worked at the Keswick that I made everyone sick of it. I still get a thrill when I hear that opening, though... :)

As for men singing women songs, I like the other way, too. Remember Dar Williams singing that Springstein song? Highway Patrolman I think? Yeah.

Oh and I'm a posting fiend, too. And a commenting fiend.

Yeah I'm into that, too, but I think it's far more common. Almost all of Crooked Still's songs are like that, and The Mammals do it, too, even though they have both male and female lead vocalists in the band.
