Yay old friends:)
Jul. 6th, 2008 07:39 amEmily V-now-B's wedding reception was yesterday, and it was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with some of my oldest friends. I still have bridge fever, and probably bored everyone half to death yapping about it, but being the good friends that they are, no one told me to shut the fuck up already, even though probably someone should have.
Two of my old high school buddies that were there are finishing up med school and well on their way to being doctors, and everyone has real jobs and is all metropolitan -- Philly, Chicago, Manhattan, DC, and well, northern Vermont -- our little group has gone global. I'm the only one that still calls Charlottesville home, but even that is a bit of a stretch, since it feels like ages since I've been there. Apparently my mother managed to remodel the house, or parts of it, in my time away, and she's very excited for me to check it out.
Anyway I had great fun hanging out with everyone again, and I wish we could be closer together or closer connected. The internet makes that more possible than ever, but it's still not the same. We have our own peculiar brand of silliness that just plays out better in live settings.
I also discovered that I really like the game Carcassonne, though the rules are terribly complicated and I certainly didn't understand every last bit. Still, if you already have knowledge of the game, I'd totally love to play...just putting that out there.
With all the traveling I've been doing, the last few months have just flown by, and all of a sudden I'm just over two weeks away from Falcon Ridge. Normally I get the FRFF ants in my pants around January each year and then spend the next six months counting down the days with excitement, but I haven't had to do that this year. Of course I'm excited as ever and can't wait to go back -- I just can't believe how much other awesome stuff I've gotten to do this year. In previous years, FRFF has been the one bright spot on a calendar filled with work and obligations, but this year it's just another trip among many -- though certainly the most anticipated one:)
As soon as Helen and McKenzie decide to wake up, I get to start making my way back home. Even that is exciting when you spend so little time there. Charlottesville is for lovers. :)
Peace.

Date: 2008-07-07 01:51 am (UTC)If you buy expansions, start with either Trader & Builder (pig! builder! resources!) or with Inns and Cathedrals (double-or-nothing on your roads and cities, plus lots of new shaped tiles). Do not, under any circumstances, start with The Count; he's hella complicated. (That was the purple dude I threw back in the box.) King and Scout is pretty cool, but is mostly about the Hunters and Gatherers version of Carcassonne (which is also fun, but very different). I don't know anything about Princess & Dragon or Abbey & Mayor.
Glad you had fun! And thanks for taking Helen, and RR too. You're the best! And you can call anytime to hear about religion and how it factors in to weddings. ;-)
