Introduction to 2004
Jan. 2nd, 2004 08:38 am2003 was one of those years that seemed to drag on. Now that it's behind me, I am breathing a deep sigh of relief. Not a bad year, just not one of my best. Its conclusion means that I am within sight of graduation, marriage, and complete adulthood. I talked to my dad yesterday about opening an IRA account for my retirement with some of the money I get from the farm. He was really proud of me for thinking ahead like that. I think he more than my mother realizes that I'm ready to strike out on my own. My mom's confidence in me is shaky. But then again, when are you ever good enough for your mother? (Emily Vancho and Helen Wilbur, you don't count.) Actually I'm sure that deep down, all of our parents love us and are proud of us...mothers just tend to be the quickest to express their disappointment when your life veers off the course they've set down for you.
The New Year's party at my house was fantastic, though the toga thing completely fell through. Only Helen and Jeremy were able to get them to work. But the party was great nevertheless. Some old friends were there that I haven't seen in years. It was awesome to see them. High school really was a great time in my life; I especially have fond memories of DI. I was disappointed that Mr. and Mrs. Vancho didn't make an appearance. Ah well. Anyway the party was great.
The next day, Helen, Emily Gercke, Leanne, Jeremy and I went hiking at Sugar Hollow. We went up one of the ways I've never gone before. It was beautiful. We left the trail and scampered up a hill to these "cliffs" where we had lunch and took pictures and enjoyed general merriment. I miss having the time to go hiking and organize stuff like that with my friends. I need to get in much better shape so that I can go to Old Rag again and also join my cousin Laura on the AT when I have some time off work.
I haven't talked about getting hypnotized yet. The mention of Laura, Kent's daughter, reminded me. My uncle Kent is a big shot lawyer and bridge player from Lexington. Recently, he decided he didn't have enough degrees and decided to get two more from JMU. He's now a hypnotherapist in addition to big shot lawyer and bridge player. I won't go into the details because there are lots of them, but basically I've been having nightmares and really bad anxiety lately, and I asked Kent to hypnotize me to help me out a bit. He did, and I've never felt more relaxed in my life. I've pretty much decided to start seeing a regular hypnotherapist, but not my uncle. I just can't begin to explain the utter serenity I felt under trance. So I have to do it again!
Anyhow I have to be off now for work. Good day to all. Peace.
