Aug. 7th, 2008 02:15 pmJust back from the gym with A, and planning to go again each day through Monday, when we leave for Hunt Valley. We decided to skip the sectional, because bridge is expensive, and we've got shit to do around here anyway. And plenty of bridge yet to come...
My gym schedule today was 10 minutes of cardio warmup on the hill climber elliptical thing (the one with a really steep stride for to make your butt look sexy), then a brief weight training session for legs and lower abs, then back on the elliptical for 30 more minutes. I feel good. Nice and sweaty. I have to go out again soon to meet Mom for our first Weight Watchers meeting.
I think WW will be really helpful for me, bringing back some of the structure I had when I was on that big diet/exercise program with Jen. Working out with A helps a lot on the exercise front, but there's little structure in my diet, and I know I'm not conscientious enough when I eat. So I'm looking forward to it for that, and I'm also really glad my mom is getting into it. Most people I know who've done WW have had tremendous success, not just at losing weight but getting and staying healthy, and I've been really worried about my mom's health for a long time. She'll tell you she just has bad DNA, but the truth of the matter is that she's lazy. She's incredibly active in life, with bridge, volunteer work, and keeping a nice home, but she does very little actual exercising, and she eats like I eat, which is like a pig. She makes tons of excuses for herself for not exercising, and while they're sort of valid (she is busy), there's no reason she can't get off her ass and walk a lap or two around the neighborhood each night with my dad, who walks all the time.
I feel like having me in the program with her will keep my mother honest and motivated, and while I'm very much doing this for her, my own goals are definitely my first priority. Wish me luck:)
Peace.
