For some reason, Firefox is not cooperating with me, so this update is brought to you by IE.  This puts me in a sour mood.  But actually I'm in a pretty great mood, because I've had a really good day.

I'm feeling infinitely better than I have in the past couple of weeks, and I went to the first home football game at Virginia Tech with Z, Adrian, and my dad today.  Rain was in the forecast, but it was actually a very pleasant day, so that was nice.  I bought myself a new hat:)  The game could've been better.  It was ugly for all but the 3rd quarter, but at least the Hokies won this one.  Some face was saved when ECU POUNDED WVU this afternoon, but Tech didn't lose last weekend because they played a good team.  They lost because they didn't play football.  The team I watched last week would've lost to AHS.  The team I saw today had glimmers of greatness, but also lots and lots of problems.  Next week they host Georgia Tech, and they'll need to step it up a lot to compete with them.

I got sunburned and my good-for-the-environment organic deodorant totally failed me, but I had a good time anyway.  I was bummed when UVA beat Richmond, but I guess they were supposed to, anyway.  Did you know that UVA has banned free speech at football games?  They aren't allowing any signs anymore, but they haven't offered up any explanation to the ban.  Adrian thinks it's so people will stop holding up the "FIRE AL GROH" signs.  But that's just like UVA to not listen to its student body.  Whatever, we Tech fans couldn't be happier that Groh's contract keeps getting renewed!

I started reading Jane Austen's Persuasion yesterday, and I'm about halfway through it now.  It's not one of her more popular works, but I'm enjoying it enough.  I find it aggravatingly tense, though.  I really would not have done well in the 18th century, when everyone kept their feelings so buried and women were never permitted to be bold.  I would burst if I couldn't put my feelings out there.  Thank goodness for blogging.  I'm getting into this book and reading huge chunks of it at once not because I'm captivated by it, so much as that I'm dying for a resolution.  But I guess the fact that I'm so involved with the characters and plot means I'm into the book, even if it's not exactly a pleasant read for me.  I am enjoying it.  Austen has many flaws, and I've found that her works are totally predictable and quite formulaic, but I can't help but love them anyway.

I'm going to get back to my book now that my mind is on it again.

Peace.

You know, I was thinking of switching to an environment friendly deoderant, but they don't have anti-perspirant, and my sweat would probably pound it into the ground and send the deoderant running home to its mother. Have you found one with an anti-perspirant? And does what you use work normally?

I've been using the Tom's brand, and while I'm normally someone who sweats more than most marathon runners, it's been surprisingly successful at both deodorizing and holding the sweat at bay (though McKenzie hates the smell and has said he prefers the stink of body odor to this deodorant! whatever, I like it.), but under extreme conditions, it fails brilliantly at both.

Glad you're feeling better, Meg! I've tried the Crystal deodorant, Trader Joe's deodorant, and Tom's brand, but all have failed to the point that Kerry asked me to go back to the other stuff ;) If you have better luck with a brand let me know! -Jillo

I started using talcum powder (it's what my mom uses) but so far it's only good at absorbing sweat that's on me right now or whenever I apply it. It's not working for all-day-long stuff.
