It's been a long day. We woke up at 5:30am and drove down to Brevard, NC for the Mountain Song Festival. As festivals go, it's very small. Just one day and only four bands in the lineup, but the bands were all stellar. Steep Canyon Rangers, Cherryholmes, Tim O'Brien, and Sam Bush. Eight hours of incredible, incredible bluegrass.

We had to skip the VT - GT game, though, which was a bummer, because VT actually won. I wasn't feeling very confident after their first two games, and GT beat BC last week, so all signs pointed to disappointment this weekend. But the Hokies came through -- still, I hear this one was ugly, too, but at least it's a win, and kind of a big one. It's still going to be a difficult season, though. The team is very young.

Bridgewater lost 10-6, which is a bummer, but UVA got pounded by Connecticut, so that cheered me up. The Ducks won in double OT, and the Beavers beat Hawaii, so it was a good day for the Oregon teams, too. I think I'm more of a Duck than a Beaver, but whereas the schools are major rivals, Z cheers for both. We may go to a game while we're out there.

I finished Running With Scissors today. I enjoyed the book, but it was also extremely disturbing -- especially disturbing because it was true. I'm afraid it might give me nightmares. Not the standard wake-up-screaming-and-sweating nightmares, but upsetting dreams that disturb my rest. I laughed a lot throughout this book, and I'm looking forward to starting Dry, which I neglected to bring down to NC, but I wouldn't consider this memoir humorous. There were parts I definitely would want to share with friends -- mostly about poop, natch -- but I'm not sure I could in good conscience actually recommend this read to anyone else...

I'm bummed that I don't have anything to read on the 6-hour drive home. I should have brought Dry, but dammit, I need SOMETHING for the airplane.
