Sep. 16th, 2008 07:21 amMy dad will be here in about 30 minutes to take us to the bus station. The bus leaves a little before 9, and we get to DC in the late morning. Our flight is out of Reagan at 4:30 or something like that, so we're gonna have some time to kill. We connect in Salt Lake (pretty boring airport, if you ask me) and arrive in Portland at 9pm Pacific if all goes according to plan. It's a long day, but at least we arrive at a reasonable hour. We're also staying in Portland tonight rather than driving down to Salem immediately like we normally do, so that shaves considerable hassle off the last leg of our journey.
As is typical on a travel day, I have an upset stomach. If it's still bothering me by the time we're supposed to fly, I think I'll just take a couple of Tylenol PM, which have about a 50% success rate of putting me to sleep on the plane. The odds are against me seeing as it's a mid-day flight, but I've got some good books if I fail to doze.
This week, we're headed down to Klamath Falls in southern Oregon so Z can work for FedEx out there. He's doing the Crater Lake route, so I'm going to ride along with him some and go up to the lake at least once. Yay:) We're staying with our friend Harvey in KF, and I'll be playing a lot of bridge with him while we're there. He's a really nice guy, and I've never seen him without a big smile on his face. Just the kind of person you want to spend all your time with. He's retired and works out a lot, too, so he's going to take me to his pool for some swimming and also go biking with me around the very hilly KF. Should be a good time!
We're seeing Slaid Cleaves this weekend, and then the following week is when Ben and Danny will both be in Portland, so that's where we'll be, too! We're all staying with Dave and we're going out to Mount Hood one day for a hike. For all the drooling I've done over those mountains, I've never actually come within an hour's drive of any of them, and I can't effing wait to actually be ON one of them. And the biggest one, at that! I might just pee in my pants.
After we put the boys on their planes, we head to the coast for the Seaside regional, where Z has a client and I'm playing with Harvey. Chris and Tammy will be there, too, and may be available for a team, but Z warns us that with Chris' points alone, we'd be Bracket I, and the other Bracket I teams...well, they're better. So maybe we'll just play pairs.
The regional is a week long, then we've got a condo in Bend for the following week with Z's parents. Bend is in Central Oregon, sort of on a plateau surrounded by huge mountains. So we'll be doing lots of hiking and gawking, and I'm very excited about this, too.
We're hoping to find a few days to make it to Seattle after Bend, but as you see we've made it to the final week of our journey without any time spent with Z's extended family, so Seattle might have to wait... I'm pretty bummed about that, but I'd be more bummed about missing out on the family, because they really are great.
Then we come home on Tuesday, October 14, and we see Girlyman on the 16th, and all is right with the world.
