I <3 Football
Sep. 28th, 2008 12:35 pmAll my teams won this week (except Bridgewater. Apparently my alma mater is back to sucking at football.).
My favorite team, Virginia Tech, played at perennial powerhouse Nebraska and won 35-30. Okay, so neither team was ranked going into this contest, but I think when this game was scheduled, both teams had much higher expectations and it was supposed to have been a marquee matchup. Still, it's always good to get a win like this.
My second favorite team, whoever's playing UVA (Duke this week), absolutely annihilated the Cavs, who are now a pitiful 1-3. Duke, by the way, hadn't won an ACC game in FOUR YEARS. I love watching UVA get embarrassed.
McKenzie is an Oregon and Oregon State fan, unlike most Oregonians who pick sides, and I'm becoming more of a fan of these teams, too. I was favoring the Ducks, but then OSU came up big on Thursday, unseating USC. Go Beavers! The Ducks didn't have as difficult an opponent, but they had a nice win, too, over Washington State.

reinedepique, I was cheering for Michigan this week, and they certainly had a big day as well.
I didn't really care much about any of the other games, though I was quite glad to see so many top 25 teams lose. I'll be surprised now if the Hokies don't make their way into the rankings for week 5. It seemed like whoever won their game would have a legitimate argument for consideration, anyhow. On the other hand, Tech hasn't looked solid in ANY of their games this season. They have blocked kicks in every game, but their whole team is very young and there are lots of holes. No turnovers yesterday, which is a really nice stat, but the defense still could've looked a lot better, and the offense had to settle for a lot of field goals. Even against Furman, Tech didn't look that good. But they've found ways to win in each of their last 4 games, and that's the bottom line, I guess. Georgia Tech and Nebraska were both big wins, if not solid. McKenzie said he expects the Hokies to edge into the top 20, but I'll be satisfied if they just earn a ranking. I guess it depends on how closely the voters have been watching their games this season.
Speaking of voters -- we're under 40 days away from the election. It'll be here in no time...hopefully...
Peace.
