The regional is going pretty well. Harvey and I are just playing 2 sessions of pairs per day, and we've scratched in every session, so that's good. We only played in a single-session side game yesterday so I could take the evening off. We finished 4th overall, I think, with a 60% game. Sorta makes me want to play another side game session to make the overalls, but it's not worth skipping the open pairs. The side game is painful.

Anyway, I took the night off so I could drive to Hillsboro with my mother-in-law to catch Tracy Grammer. We listened to the first 70 minutes of the VP debate on the radio on the way over. The news analysis of the debate is basically that Palin did better than expected, held her own, whatever, and that Biden did win. I agree that Palin didn't sound like the bumbling fool she was with Katie Couric, but it was SO OBVIOUS that she was given a script and told to stick to it at all costs. When she was asked one question, she would change the subject entirely, usually to energy, or to say something about nukular weapons. When she did go off-script, she stuttered and fumbled quite a bit. Joe Biden sounded cool and confident throughout. I guess listening on the radio vs. seeing it on television painted a more drastic picture, because I did feel like Biden really dominated throughout, and that it was obvious Palin is hopeless without a script.

We did have to turn it off early to get our seats in the venue. I don't remember the name of it, but it was a lovely little place in a Portland suburb. I spoke to Tracy briefly before the show, and then she came to mingle with me at intermission. We talked about hiking and the mountains and how much I adore Portland. Then after the break, she dedicated "The Mountain" to me when she played it. My mother-in-law was so touched that she cried (aww). I admit, I still get all giddy just to talk to Tracy. I adore her so much, and even though I consider her a friend, she'll always be on a pedestal to me. Having her recognize me from the stage like that was not unlike the feeling one gets when THE HOTTEST GUY IN SCHOOL OMG asks you out. Not that I know what that feels like, I'm just sayin'.

I'm sad that we'll be leaving in less than two weeks, but I'm glad I have another TG show (and Girlyman the next night!) to look forward to when we get back to Virginia.

Peace.
