Blah, the debate
Oct. 7th, 2008 11:55 pmI did my civic duty again and watched the debate tonight, though I did find it thoroughly boring. Nothing new, really. More of the same. But I guess more of the same means that there's no change in the polls, and I really like the way the polls look right now!
I do have to fault Obama for not coming down harder on McCain's health care plan. McCain wants to give every American a $5000 tax credit toward health care, but also wants to start taxing health care benefits from employers. First of all, the poorest Americans don't even pay $5000 in taxes, so what good will a tax credit do them? Nada.
Secondly, have any of you tried shopping for a health care plan? Do you know how little $5000 will get you in this system? I'd like to see John McCain, who's had cancer FOUR TIMES (a preexisting condition, I'd say), switch to a $5000/year health insurance policy.
I'm a healthy, 25-year-old woman with no family history of any major physical illnesses, almost every health plan I could get was way more than $5000 annually -- AND those plans all sucked. In the end, I settled for a plan that sucked even more, but was at least sort of affordable. I welcome the opportunity to sign on with the Congressional health care plan. I think Obama's plan is a step in the right direction. I generally agree with him. I just wish he'd really pointed out how unreasonable McCain's plan is -- because it's total bunk.
Peace.
