Oct. 13th, 2008 12:46 pmGreat Big Sea last night was FANTASTIC. It was the last night of their tour, so they left everything on stage, and I'm sore today from all the jumping and dancing. It was probably the best concert I've seen all year. The venue reminded me a lot of Charlottesville's Paramount Theater, except it was a bit smaller. Not a bad seat in the house. Great sound. Nice atmosphere. Fun people. Most expensive concert tickets in town...
Anyway the show was totally worth the high admission. The band played two sets and two encores, and from the very first song, I was on my feet dancing. GBS is so much fun. Their stage banter is fresh and funny, their music is highly interactive, and uh, they're really hot.
After that 2.5-hour show, I no longer felt bad about skipping the gym for an afternoon nap. I definitely got my exercise. (Side note: Great Big Sea's music has been in heavy rotation on my mp3 player while I've been working out and losing weight. Without tunes like "Dance Dance," "I'm a Rover," and "Company of Fools," I might never have found the will to keep pushing for those last ten minutes every day, and I could still be two or three sizes softer.
I woke up this morning to lots of comments on my Gadling post about the Catholic school turned pub. It's currently featured on the AOL Welcome Screen, which is exciting for me because it's an original content post that they found interesting enough to feature. I contacted the McMenamin's people to tell them I'd reviewed their joint, but haven't heard back from them yet. Lots of the commenters are saying how awesome they think this is and how they can't wait to go to Bend and see it -- you're welcome for the free advertising, folks. Now where's my swag? ;)
McKenzie says we've got things to do, so I guess I'm signing off now -- gotta take in as much of Oregon as I can for these last 24 hours...
Peace.
