Oct. 23rd, 2008 08:20 pmWe're going back to Oregon tomorrow.
I'm glad to go back, but wish the circumstances were happier. McKenzie's grandmother died today. We're going to be out there until a week from Monday, then it's straight to Virginia Beach from there, so that means no concert or camping this weekend or hiking at Sugar Hollow next week. Sorry to cancel these things, but I'm sure you understand.
Things are just shitty lately. Grandmother Myers was very old, but still this comes as rather a shock, because she was healthy as far as we all knew. She died of a heart attack in her home. My sister-in-law's mom has been in the hospital this week getting some tests because her doctors suspect lymphoma. One of my brother's best friends since always is in the hospital now, losing his years-long battle with colon cancer. My dad's cousin Edward just passed away earlier this month.
DOES ANYONE HAVE GOOD NEWS?
My mom wanted to know what charity she could donate to in Z's grandmother's name, because that's what she does when people die. I think I'll tell her Dorothy was a really big supporter of the Oregon Builders And Metalworkers Association. I know donations to OBAMA would have meant a lot to her. (Seriously, the last time we hung out with her, she spent about an hour talking about how much she'd loved Hillary, but hopes Obama wins because she doesn't think much of McCain, and she's done all the things Sarah Palin ever has and then some. Lived in Alaska? Check. Five kids? Check. PTA? Check. Okay, so she's never governed a state. But she might have done a better job.)
Anyway, I'll be hitting the road again tomorrow, arriving in the early afternoon on Saturday (staying in Richmond tomorrow night for our ass-early flight Saturday AM). Back in Charlottesville on the 10th.
Peace.
