Oct. 29th, 2008 09:22 pmZ's grandmother's funeral was today. It was a graveside service at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, officiated by the chaplain in residence, I think. I can't say I've ever enjoyed a funeral, but I definitely prefer services where the officiant actually knows the departed. This guy kept it pretty generic, but still there were some things where I couldn't help but think "well that's not really appropriate...." But the service wasn't bad. I cried a lot, as is typical. We rode up with McKenzie's grandfather (other side of the family; his paternal grandfather died in the 60's) and spent most of our day in his company. He's such a sweet, sweet guy. One of my favorite people in the world, no question.
When we got back to Salem, we were pretty exhausted, so we just gave up the rest of our afternoon to rest and relaxation, stirring around dinnertime to watch Obama's informercial, Countdown, and now the World Series. I don't really have any attachment to either of the teams, but most of my friends are Phillies fans, and I have a hard time cheering for any AL team, because I have no love for the DH. So I find myself rooting for the Phillies, even though their fans are known for being the biggest group of assholes in sports. Sigh. I thought Mets fans were pretty brutal when I went to Shea for a few games, but apparently Phils fans are way worse. That can't be good.
I just looked at my watch and realized it's barely 6:30. I was thinking it was more like 9pm. Yeesh. As if my internal clock wasn't fucked up enough already, we fall back this weekend, too, don't we? I'm gonna be waking up at 3am! Well, it's not really worth trying to adjust, since we're going back east on Monday and I'll be staying up late while I'm out there -- bridge until 11 most days, except of course Tuesday -- hopefully I'll be up late celebrating:)
Peace.
