I wish I took my camera with me to Portland today.  It was cold and rainy, but the city was more beautiful than I've ever seen it.  We were up there for just a few hours with Z's uncle Ron, moving some furniture into our place up there.  Driving through the residential areas, all the leaves were turning and a lot of bright yellow leaves were carpeting the ground.  Portland neighborhoods have so much character already, with the fall colors to enhance their appeal, it was one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever witnessed.  I didn't want to leave.  (Jess, aren't you loving your Portland layover?)

We got two dressers, two chairs, two end tables, a mirror, and a lamp moved into Dave's basement.  It looks like a real residence now!  I'm so sad that it's going to be six months still before I can really move in -- but it's our place now, and I love knowing that it's there waiting for us.  I can't wait to get my things all set up there and really make it my own.  We're so lucky to have a guy like Dave in our lives, generously offering up his extra space to us so we can afford to live here.  Otherwise the only way we could do it would be to move in with the in-laws.  Hooboy.  I love them, but no.  This is a nice house, but they keep it really cold, it's far away from town and convenient to nothing, they have a sculpture in their living room that creeps the bejesus out of me, their cat's kind of an asshole, and you have to run the shower for like 5 minuets before the hot water shows up.  Then again, there are some great advantages to staying here.  For some reason, Cindy loves doing our laundry, we're close to most of Z's coolest relatives, someone else always insists on paying for our meals, the Gold's is really nice, and when the cat isn't being an asshole, he is really cute.

Looking forward to moving day, we're pretty busy leading up to that time (and after).  Hopefully it speeds by:
11/3-11/9 - Virginia Beach bridge tournament
11/?-11/? - Brooklyn to babysit my niece
11/20-11/26 - Boston NABC
11/26 - 11/30 - Thanksgiving festivities with family (VT vs. UVA on 11/29 in Blacksburg)
12/5-12/7 - Charlottesville sectional bridge tournament
Rest of December -- Z works for FedEx, I stay home doing whatever needs doing...
12/29-1/4 - Charleston bridge tournament
1/12-1/18 - Charlottesville regional omg
early feb - Mother-in-law visits in VA
2/13 - 2/14 - GNT semis (DC)
2/15-2/21 - Portland Regional (maybe?)
2/20 or 21 - my great-uncle's 90th birthday celebration in VA (maybe?)
2/28-3/1 - GNT finals (DC)
March -- we want to go to Houston for the NABC, but that will depend on finances/sponsors.  We also want Emily and Chris to visit us in Oregon over their spring break, so we'd need to be in Oregon for that....but the GNTs might be a problem.  Argh.  Also, if we win the GNTs in our district, I'd have to miss FRFF to compete in the national event.  Gah!
4/4-4/5 -- Cville B/C GNTs.  I'm supposed to be in charge, but could hand this off to my mom if I have to be out of town.
4/13-4/19 - Gatlinburg bridge.  The plan is to pack up our car and just keep driving west after the tournament, stopping in Bloomington, IN to visit Emily, and arriving in Portland sometime in late April/early May after a leisurely road trip.

Things are a lot more wide open after our regional in mid-January, and also if we fail to advance in the GNTs, though our team should be a favorite in the 0-5K category.  Me, McKenzie, Geoff, and Kent.  I'm by far the weakest link on that team, but lately I've been really pleased with my performance, and I no longer feel like I'm out of my league in an event like this.  Anyway I'd love to win, but on the other hand I don't want to have to choose between my first major national bridge competition and FRFF...it makes my heart cry to think about it.

After we move, our schedules are wide open until the July NABC/FRFF.  There are some bridge tournaments we may want to attend on the east coast, but I really think I want to get settled in Oregon and really BE here for a while.  Also I'll have a family vacation sometime in there, but I'm not sure when that's supposed to be...I guess probably in June.  We're going camping for a week.  I can't believe my parents are on board for this.

I <3 Oregon SO MUCH.

Peace.

Hm, either of you want to be my proxy in Boston for the Nov 23rd morning BoG meeting? I'll be in Boston, but can only make it the second weekend due to some vacation day thievery on the part of my company, so I can't make the meeting myself.

Since this meeting has some electing involved, I have to submit paperwork for my proxies ahead of time and cannot have the BoD appoint a proxy for me.
