Portland Regional, Day 2
Feb. 17th, 2009 04:55 pmDo you ever have episodes where you talk in your sleep, and of course you're not making any sense, but it makes sense to you, and then you're SO PISSED when the people you've woken up with your somnobabble don't understand what you're talking about? That happens to me all the time. Apparently I really gave Z an earful last night when I started dreaming about bridge hands and wanted to talk about them. I remember doing this -- not as much as Z says I did, but one thing I recall quite clearly was yelling at him from my stupor "BUT WE WEREN'T GOING TO SIGN OFF IN TWO HEARTS ANYWAY!" Good to know my brain is still working on my game even after I've gone to bed.
We're in the finals of the kickoff KO here in Portland:) We're either playing a team we already annihilated in the first round 3-way, or a team that should be even easier to beat...so hopefully we're golden. With a few small exceptions, I've been playing very well so far, and I'm very pleased. Bridge is really fun when you do it right.
We're hanging out at Chez Datlof between sessions and Joel is cooking for us while I fuck around on the internet (under the guise of trying to do work) and Z and Adam play table tennis.
I started back on the pushup program today, after several failed attempts to stick with it last week. Bridge tournaments really do fuck with a girl's fitness program. There's a lot of time between the two PM sessions, though, and I'm pretty well caught up on work, so I can hopefully get in some exercise at least a few days this week. Then next week I'm sure I'll be doing lots of hiking when Helen gets to town, because we are the original Mountain Divas.
I'm really excited for Helen to arrive, but I'm in no hurry for this week to end, because then I won't have another bridge tournament for three whole weeks, and that is just too long. I'm really getting sucked into this lifestyle. I think a few more years of steady table time like I'm getting now and I'll be a real force at the table. Learning this game can be a real downer, though, because the more you figure out, the more you realize you still don't know. It's an uphill struggle -- but that makes getting to the top so incredibly rewarding. And there are lots of minor summits along the way, too.
Since we've been playing bridge essentially since we landed, I haven't done much Portland stuff, but even just driving around this city is a great feeling. I'm so happy here, so happy that I'm staying here and I don't have to cram my whole agenda into a few days. (((Rose City)))
Dinner bell.
