This city just keeps giving me the warm fuzzies!  I woke up early this morning, but Z was not interested in the early bridge session, so I did a little work and then got dressed and went to the gym across the street.  I was feeling fine when I woke up, and I thanked the lucky stars for my youth, since it seems I escaped the hangover I was really asking for last night when I downed all that liquor.  I had a few moments of dizziness on the treadmill, and a brief moment of "oh fuck I'm gonna hork" when I was done working out, but I sat down and did some deep breathing exercises before trying to leave the gym and things are good again.

This gym is SUPER convenient.  It's literally across the street, and they don't charge signup fees or monthly dues.  You pay when you use it, $40/month or $110/three months, and they have yoga once a week.  The equipment isn't state of the art, but it's perfectly fine, and it's so convenient, it's definitely worth it for my purposes for now.  And the owner was so nice!  So I think I'll pay the $40 for the months that I'm in town and enjoy the convenience of it.  I'm going to keep on the lookout for more yoga classes, though, because I want more than one a week, and I'll check out the community center at Mt. Tabor, too, because that's really cheap and I hear they have a pool...

I love how friendly everyone here is.  People in Charlottesville used to be super friendly, but then the city got all hip and everyone became really elitist.  The people are still generally great back in CHO, but I just feel like these Portlanders are my kind of folks, you know?  Everyone smiles and says hi and people stop for you when you're trying to cross the street.  And all the families have dogs.  This town is exactly what I want out of home.

Peace.

awesome, glad to hear you're loving it so much!
I think that friendly thing is part of the west... and it's really hard to describe, and it's subtle... maybe the opposite of elitist is exactly what it is! It's just a gym/car/bar/whatever... maybe lacking a lot of the pretense you run into in so many other places.

I'll be up in Oregon for a trip at some point this summer, it's law-school-laura's last summer there, so I think we'll do some kind of "visit the best or Oregon" adventure. Portland is definitely on that list!
