The Verdant Mile
Feb. 23rd, 2009 10:10 pmIt's also about walking around in Portland -- she lived here with Dave.
When she introduced this song at one of her recent shows, she talked about how after Dave died, her senses were so open to everything -- she noticed everything around her so much more intensely, because she was looking in everything for signs of Dave. I think we've all been there.
It's not just a feeling you get with loss, though it is certainly profound then. I've been feeling this way ever since I got to Portland. I'm so in love with this city, just taking it all in, wanting to memorize every little bit of it. I also want to share everything I love about the place, and my mind races with ideas all the time of which friends would enjoy which parts of the town and what I would do with whom.
I'm in that place right now where I'm high as if in love for the first time. I've never loved a place like I love Portland, so maybe that's it. It's not just Portland, though. I'm in love anew with all sorts of things right now. There are several new friends in my life that I couldn't adore more, my job is wonderful, I'm having a bridge renaissance, I'm falling in love with running, deeper in love with music -- so much love. I've never been this happy in my whole life...it's like, "OH! So this is what it's like!"
I hope this feeling sticks around.
Peace.
