Aug. 19th, 2009 05:21 pmThis week is full of anticipation. It's the final stretch after three weeks apart from my husband. He gets home Monday night. My family gets here Tuesday and Wednesday. So I'm glad that Kelly came to Oregon this week, because her visit gives me something to think about besides the waiting. She's up here visiting her friend Laura, who is about to start her final year of law school at U of O, and the two of them were nice enough to invite me along to participate in their shenanigans. They came to Portland yesterday, and we did some of my favorite Portland things -- lunch at Nicholas, my favorite Lebanese place, shopping at Hawthorne, dinner at the Bagdad, and riesling in the hot tub at night. Good times.
This morning, we went to Mount Hood together and went on a very hot hike, and played in the snow to cool off. They dropped me off back at home and headed north to the Olympic peninsula, where they're going to camp for a few days. I decided to stay in town and get some work done, and told them to call me when they get to Mt. Saint Helens, as I definitely want to join them for that this weekend. So I've got a few more days of mostly alone time to pass, but I've got plenty to keep me busy, so it's no problem. We took some great pictures today, but they're on Kelly's and Laura's cameras, so I'll post them as soon as they get them online.
Everyone on Facebook has been griping about the heat lately. Many are lamenting broken or nonexistant A/C's. My house doesn't have A/C, and I am thankful that I live in the basement. The heat wave hit Portland with a vengeance this week, which has made me feel pretty lethargic. I'm trying to keep plugging away at my work and responsibilities, though.
I've realized that watching so much My So-Called Life over the past few weeks has dramatically altered the way I speak. Time to make a conscious effort to remove the word "like" from my vocabulary. From now on, I either love things or hate them.
Peace.
