Jul. 29th, 2004 10:15 pmI'm very amused. Thanks for "Megisthebestest." I'm going to take it as a compliment and not mocking. I think I know who it's from...anyway, cute.
OK I have a little more time to elaborate on the whole Falcon Ridge experience. It was awesome! As far as the musical experience, it's hard to say if it was better or just the same. A lot of my favorites were MIA, so that was a downer, but I did hear some great new artists. Like this band Airdance - they're a dance band, no lyrics - they have this girl who dances on the stage the whole time they play. It was awesome. My favorite new act was Aoife (pronounced EEfa) O'Donovan and Crooked Still. They only play traditional stuff but their arrangements are totally kickass. A double bass, cello (with an absolute madman at the bow), banjo, and vocals.
I got to hang out with some way cool people this year, too. First off, Helen came. The worst part about FRFF last year was that none of my good friends who I know would have LOVED it were there. But this year Helen was there, and my cousin Laura (who is the shit fantastic!), and I also bonded a lot more with the folks of camp edhead. Queen Shelly is one of my new favorite people, I must say. When she lost her voice, Jeremy got to fill in as her "pinch woo-er." He was kinda bad at it, but it was still a neat gig. I was able to hang out a lot more with the musicians this year, too. Having an in with Shelly means having an in with EFO, and an in with EFO means an in with whomever they happen to bring down to party at the camp. So I hung out with Richard Hsu of DVN, all the EFO members, and Girlyman, who were not brought to me by the EFO connections.
As many of you know, Girlyman (Ty, Doris, and Nate) will be playing the reception at the wedding, so they know who Jer and I are from all the contract correspondence. I didn't realize they'd recognize our faces without our email addresses attached, but when we ran into them at the ice cream stand, they greeted us like old pals. Then, when I was *trying* to fly Jer's new kite, I realized I was being cheered on by someone on the hill - Nate, Doris, and their manager Gen. I know they're not actually famous, but it's still a big warm fuzzy to know that this band that I idolize actually gives a damn about me.
Because of Shelly's awesome dedication to waking up at 4am for the tarp run, we had front and center (ok, maybe not completely center but you weren't there so you'll never know how much I'm exaggerating ahhahahaha...but it was front row) seats for Girlyman and EFO. Nate and Doris both waved to me before their set, and all three constantly looked over at Jer and me while playing - such an awesome feeling!
Shelly threw us some bitchin' parties with EFO and friends, and overall we had a blast. I've learned a lot of dirt about all the performers, but I've promised to the queen to remain hush hush, and that promise I will keep. If you want to know, come to the festival next year:)
Peace.
