jianantonicMax and I had an okay first day at the Pocatello sectional. There are actually a few decent pairs here -- we were expecting a bunch of local club players and not much more, but a lot of people made the trip from other parts of the district, so it's not exactly a cakewalk of an event. We didn't have any major disasters, but our unfair share of shitty luck kept us out of the running in the afternoon. Our evening game was mostly solid -- 58%ish. Could be better, but we really didn't leave much on the table.
My in-laws are here playing together. It's their first real tournament ever, and they were so excited not to be last place yesterday afternoon. Then in the evening, they were doing really well until fatigue caught up with them in the last few rounds. Still, they hung on to scratch -- their first silver points ever. They were so excited, and I'm so happy for them. I remember how jazzed I used to get to see even a fraction of a masterpoint by my name on that score sheet. Now I'm bummed every time I'm not first, so I have to tap into that excitement vicariously :)

I had interview #5 yesterday morning with the company I really want to work for. I think it went well. It sounds like there are a few more steps yet before a final hire is made, so I'm hoping we can move forward while I'm traveling and have it all figured out without waiting too much longer. Waiting is hard.
