Jul. 5th, 2011 10:27 amLast night, we went to a party at Joel & Linda's. It was a casual pot luck affair, so we stopped at Fred Meyer to get some fruit and some beer to bring. If you've never been beer shopping in Portland, you probably can't understand what it's like, but the aisle goes on for days of different local and nearby microbrews. I'm not a beer fan but I will admit that it is an impressive collection. Anyway, Z took like half an hour to choose two six packs. He would walk up and down the aisle, inspecting, reading, picking up, putting down...I got pretty exasperated after all this, because I couldn't care less about beer, and I was bored and just wanted to get to the party. Then I had an epiphany: this must be what shoe shopping with me is like for him! So I cut him some slack and kept my loud sighs to myself. Mostly.
The party was fun and low-key. Just a small gathering of bridge players, so of course the cards were out from the start. We sat out on the deck overlooking the Columbia, and it could not have been a more beautiful evening. Fireworks were going off all around us all night -- apparently everything is legal here, so people do some pretty wild DIY shows. At about 10 o'clock, one of the neighbors' fireworks went rogue and lit the bushes on fire. That fire was raging for a few minutes, but the fire department got there and put it out before it spread. I bet they were busy last night.

Anyway I'm hoping to hear back about the new job at some point today, and other than waiting for the phone to ring I really have no plans. I'm in my gym clothes ready to work out, though :)
