Jul. 7th, 2011 08:05 amI'm not sure if it's because this is the first time I've spent a significant part of the summer at home, or if it really is just unseasonably hot, but I'm missing A/C this week. I've never lived in a place in Oregon that had it, and I've never missed it -- my little fan has always been enough to keep me comfortable on the few days the house ever got too hot. I wonder if having tin foil over my windows is cooking my bedroom. But the rest of the apartment feels hot, too. Anyway, I know it won't last, so I'll deal.
Another place that doesn't have A/C is the gym here. I don't really mind, but the hard part is that all the windows look out onto the pool deck, and there are times when I've come close to dismounting the treadmill and launching myself into the pool, running shoes and all. Because damn, that would feel great. So yesterday I had the bright idea to actually take my swimsuit with me to the gym and change into it after my workout for a nice relaxing swim. It was glorious. I just spent about three minutes in the water, doing a few laps around the pool and submerging enough to cool off. Then I got out, laid on a deck chair and read my book for about 20 minutes. Today I have the lovely start of a tan and my workouts are going well enough that I actually feel comfortable lounging publicly in my bikini. So I'm gonna do it again today...as soon as I have the energy to get out of bed again.

I got up early to walk Z to the Max stop. He's flying out to Denver this morning, so I accompanied him to the train to extend our goodbye just a little longer. I leave for Jackson Hole tomorrow, but I'll be back on Sunday afternoon, so I'll barely be gone at all, really. I keep forgetting that I have this trip on the agenda -- it's always a pleasant surprise when I think about it. "Oh yeah! I get to go paragliding this weekend! Holy shit!"
