1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Ran a race, flew first class, went on a cruise

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes.  I finally went back to the dentist.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Some bridge friends, but no one especially close.

5. What countries did you visit?
Mexico and the farthest reaches of the US -- Guam.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Seahorses.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably November 28, the day Shanon had Jack, and I held him for the first time.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Taking control of my mental health.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Letting myself go too much in other areas of my life -- physical fitness, professionally, my bridge game...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Lingering issues with my jacked up wrist, and a few bad colds, but nothing serious.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Well the most valuable thing is the new car, but I think best was probably my Falcon Ridge ticket.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Honestly, everyone in my life.  My circle of friends is now completely comprised of people who are positive influences.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Arianna Huffington

14. Where did most of your money go?
A sweet 2012 Hyundai Elantra.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Various travel opportunities, VT football, Blazers basketball, Falcon Ridge, new nieces and nephews, new job opportunities.

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
"Sexy and I Know it" and "No Sleep" will both always remind me of Shellie and our trip to Guam.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? This time last year was pretty much the saddest I've ever been.  This year I'm at my happiest.  So that's an easy one.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter, but working on reversing that.
iii. richer or poorer? In terms of money, poorer, but in terms of quality of life, much richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I always wish I could travel more and spend more time with friends.  As far as things I had control over, I wish I'd played more bridge and kept up with my fitness better than I did.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Working in an office.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
This past Christmas was spent with in-laws and board games.  Next Xmas is too far away to tell.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Not with anyone new.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zippo.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Sportscenter.  It's always Sportscenter.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really.  There's this one coworker at my temp job that I kind of wish I could throw down the stairs, but I won't waste any energy thinking of this person once I leave the job.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Mindbody Prescription by John Sarnos.

27. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Turns out, current top 40 music is a huge guilty pleasure of mine.  I especially love it when I'm working out.

28. What did you want and get?
New beginnings all over the place.

29. What did you want and not get?
Seahorses.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Harry Potter finale.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My friend Gail was visiting, and we went to Linda's house with a handful of other good friends.  That was also the day I got laid off from Aol.  I turned 28.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing, really.  Even though I became kind of miserable in my job by the end of the year, I made some great friends there and I got to see some incredible places, so I wouldn't change any of that.  Though it would always be nice to have enough money to afford all the things I want to do without having to do the things I don't want to do to earn that money.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
Comfort is priority.

34. What kept you sane?
Prozac and therapy.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Kate Middleton

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Wow, tough one.  I'm really stirred by a lot of political issues.  I'm most personally affected and offended by the handling of the economy, but I care most about issues like marriage equality, abortion rights, and ending violence.

37. Who did you miss?
My family, which includes blood relations as well as Shantytowners and a few bridge players.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Shellie.  Nothing against anyone else I met this year, but Shellie is pretty foxtrotting awesome.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
I learned not to dwell on negative thoughts.  Take control of that which I can change for the better, and let go of that which I can't.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I'm getting older, too."
