Nov. 4th, 2015 08:22 amI've been mostly awake since 5am. This is not okay and I intend to get more sleep before I get out of bed for the day, but since I've been awake, I have:
Won a couple of online bridge tournaments
Set some fantasy lineups on Fanduel
Read all the Facebook
Been disgusted by election results across the country
Watched an episode of Captain Planet that I was talking about the other day
The Captain Planet episode was amusing. I was telling Toby about the show, and I definitely watched it frequently as a child, but the only episode I really remember is the one where the Russian girl gets addicted to a drug called Bliss. I was 7 when the episode originally aired, and I'm sure it had the proper effect on my young mind. I don't know if Captain Planet was the first to tell me that drugs were bad, or if it was just reinforcing something I already grasped, but that episode definitely stuck with me. So I decided to watch it again this morning to see just how cheesy it was. It wasn't as bad as Jesse's caffeine pill addiction on Saved By The Bell. It was a little over-the-top, but it actually seems like a decently put-together message for a kid. It holds up reasonably well. Watching it didn't make me feel like "Oh this is so 1990!" And there was a hilarious joke at Dan Quayle's expense that I definitely didn't get when I was a kid. The bliss mob is storming the capitol building and the planeteers are trying to hold them back. Linka disappears and Wheeler needs to find her. He says "If I were a drugged-out zombie, where would I be? The Vice President's office!" HA.
Anyway that was fun but now I'm going back to sleep. Don't do drugs.
